The Fyles Government will commence a community consultation process to develop a framework for Voluntary Assisted Dying in the NT to provide accessible and safe care, the government has announced, eight months after legislation passed Federal Parliament to permit assisted dying in the Territory.
An independent “expert” advisory panel has been struck to carry out the consultations which will be co-chaired by former administrator Vicki O’Halloran and lawyer Duncan McConnel. It will meet with all interested parties, the government said, to ensure that a wide range of views and recommendations from the community will be included in proposed legislation.
