APA Group commences Beetaloo pipeline construction
Construction is underway on the Sturt Plateau Pipeline (SPP), linking the Beetaloo Basin gas field to existing infrastructure in the NT. It has been billed as a crucial component of the initial commercial phase of the Beetaloo Basin development, aimed at tapping into one of the largest untapped onshore gas reserves globally.
The APA Group will fully own and operate the Sturt Plateau Pipeline, expected to be completed by early 2026. This 12-inch pipeline will transport up to 40 terajoules of gas daily from Tamboran’s Pilot Project, providing energy to homes and businesses in the NT starting mid-2026. Situated in the Roper Gulf Region, approximately 50 km south of Daly Waters, the pipeline is projected to have a lifespan of around 40 years. Additionally, APA said it aims to increase the pipeline’s capacity for greater gas volumes to the east coast and is progressing plans for the North to East Australia Pipeline, which will facilitate large-scale gas development in the Beetaloo region for domestic and export markets.
