There will be no disciplinary action taken against senior police officers who gave evidence to the coroner denying the TRG’s Nooguda award was racist until an investigation into the matter is complete, Police Commissioner Michael Murphy has said, which followed the lifting of a suppression order on the publication of certificates handed out with the award, including one that had an Aboriginal flag backdrop.
The award certificates were tendered as evidence at the Kumanjayi Walker coronial inquest on Friday, March 1, by former constable Zach Rolfe, who claimed they “discredited” the statutory declarations of four former and current TRG members and senior officers; Acting Assistant Commissioner James Gray-Spence, Superintendent Shaun Gill, Superintendent Craig Garland and Senior Sergeant Meacham King, that the awards were not racist and in no way had anything to do with race.
The 4 senior police who lied to the court should be looking at jail time, and on the odd occasion you see Murphy on the telly these days he looks like he’s knocked off a bottle of Irish whiskey.
