NT Government ministers will be subject to new “controls and processes” for managing their conflicts of interest following another internal government review, with no specific penalties put in place for those who breach the new guidelines.
Chief Minister Eva Lawler commenced the review late last year, following Labor’s shares scandals that saw Natasha Fyles resign as chief minister, but for reasons never properly explained, Chansey Paech and Brent Potter remained in their roles as ministers with no action taken against them for their owns shares scandals, and despite Mr Paech appearing not to have declared his shares in a grog wholesale company to Cabinet while being involved in discussions about the lifting of remote alcohol bans in 2022.
Conflicts of interest will now be in a secret cabinet controlled register. Another hit to the open and transparent philosophy.
