Neighborhood Watch NT and the NT Police have revitalised its Stop. Look. Lock campaign which aims to reduce opportunistic house break-ins and property theft in the Territory, the organisations have said.
Strike Force Trident’s Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said last year, 26 per cent of homes broken into were either unlocked or unsecured.
“The campaign promotes simple reminders and encourages proactive self-awareness around protecting our property and ensuring the safety of our environments. We all get busy and be easily distracted, but it’s important to remember to stop, look and lock,” he said.
Snr Sgt Bland said the crime prevention campaign included four community service announcements highlighting how not to be a victim of opportunistic crime through simple yet effective measures to protect Territorians and their properties.
Neighborhood Watch NT northern executive officer Ashleigh Ascoli said the campaign demonstrated just how quickly an opportunistic crime could occur and the simple measures that can be taken to minimise the risk.
“We encourage all Territorians to follow the Neighbourhood Watch NT Facebook page and visit our website, to stay up to date with crime prevention strategies and community safety initiatives, and of course, remember to stop, look and lock,” Ms Ascoli said.
