More than 10,000 internet users in Alice Springs have had their NBN connection upgraded to fibre to the premises.
Member for Lingiari Marion Scrymgour said the upgrades will provide speeds of up to 18 times faster than conventional copper broadband connections and enhanced reliability.
The upgrades changed existing fibre-to-the-node connections to fibre-to-the-premises for customers who ordered faster plans.
“I am pleased this critically important communications project is completed and residents in my electorate are now able to access superfast NBN fibre internet connections,” Ms Scrymgour said.
“Full fibre access gives households the opportunity to connect to a world-class internet service, enjoying faster speeds while working or studying from home or streaming their favourite shows.”
Federal Communications Minister Michelle Rowland said the government made a $2.4 billion election promise to extend full fibre connectivity to an additional 1.5 million properties across the country by the end of 2025.
She said the expansion included over 660,000 premises in regional areas.
Ms Rowland also said the government is going to spend and additional $40 million on the NBN fixed wireless network and NBN Sky Muster, which is aimed at improving internet speeds in rural and regional locations.
“The Albanese Government is committed to making sure more Australians have access to better and faster broadband that meets the needs of our increasingly digitalised world,” she said.
