UPDATED: A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection to the death of an 18-year-old whose body was discovered by police early Saturday morning in a Palmerston driveway, NT Police said.
Dechlan Wurramarra was expected to face Darwin Local Court today.
Court records show Mr Wurramarra was charged with one count of murder and breach of bail, and was also facing older charges of carrying and use of a controlled weapon, and warrants for non-appearance in court.
On Monday evening, police said he had been detained and was reportedly “assisting” them with their investigation into the death, after police made an appeal for public assistance.
Police reported that they were notified of an unresponsive adult male found on the driveway near the intersection of Driver Avenue and Waterhouse Crescent.
It was determined that he had allegedly suffered head trauma.
Responding police officers declared the man deceased upon arriving at the residence on Saturday morning and a crime scene was established.
“An initial examination of the deceased identified head trauma and the death was treated as suspicious,” said Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey on Sunday.
An autopsy was expected to be completed on Sunday.
Investigators, who were trying to retrace the victim’s steps, held that the time of death was between 12am and 6:15am on Saturday.
On Tuesday, police said the investigation was continuing.
“Detectives from the Major Crime Squad are continuing the investigation and request anyone with information to contact police on 131 444 or you can report anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” police said in a statement.
