A group of armed offenders allegedly involved in a series of burglaries and car thefts from various Alice Springs homes over the weekend, that saw them driving stolen vehicles dangerously around the town while throwing rocks out of the windows, avoided arrest and are still at large, NT Police said.

Police are seeking public assistance in relation to the stolen vehicles and aggravated burglaries.

At around 4:10 pm Saturday, police were alerted to a white Toyota Hilux that had been stolen from a home on Johannsen Street in Gillen by an unidentified individual. The suspect fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.

Later, around 11:35 pm, a resident on Woods Terrace in Braitling reported that an unknown group of individuals had unlawfully entered their home, stealing personal belongings, including car keys.

It was reported that the offenders took the resident’s yellow and black Toyota C-HR.

Then, at 3:05 am on Sunday, a white Honda Civic was observed driving erratically in the Alice Springs CBD. It was later confirmed to have been stolen during a break-in at a residence on Latz Crescent in Larapinta the night before.

Strike Force Viper, which is investigating the incidents, said all three vehicles were seen driving recklessly throughout Alice Springs, with the offenders reportedly being armed with knives and throwing rocks from inside the cars at times, posing a threat to the community.

The offenders and the stolen vehicles are still at large, and police are exploring potential connections between the incidents.
