Police are calling for the public’s assistance to identify a group of offenders who broke into seven locations overnight in Katherine, including two government buildings, and stealing a car that was driven dangerously around town, narrowly missing pedestrians.
NT Police said all but one of the buildings broken into were on Katherine Terrace, with the other located on First Street, but did not say what time the break-ins occurred.
At 2:30 am, police said a stolen Hyundai Staria Load was observed driving dangerously around the CBD necessitating the use of a tyre deflation device to stop the vehicle.
It was later found abandoned in Katherine East, police said.
“Strike Force Cerberus and the Northern Investigations Section are currently investigating and the vehicle has been seized for analysis,” Senior Sergeant Warren Scott said in a statement.
“This sort of behaviour is completely unacceptable and Katherine police are working tirelessly to identify and hold the person’s responsible accountable for their actions.
“As a community, we need to stay vigilant with our property, like car keys and jewellery. Always ensure that you lock your doors at night or when you are not home to deter opportunistic thieves. Always remember to Stop. Look. Lock.
“Police are urging anyone with information on the unlawful entries, or dangerous driving, to make contact on 131 444. Please quote reference 10188904.”
