Tourism Minister Marie-Clare Boothby has refused to comment on an internal “briefing” she received last week into allegations of mismanaged conflicts of interest and possible misuse of public resources at the Darwin Waterfront Corporation, after previously claiming she would “make some decisions” about the matter.
Ms Boothby appears to have now stalled her decision over how to proceed and stopped answering questions about the issues at the Waterfront, following the NT Independent inquiring about why she recently approved a new executive contract for Alastair Shields and how much it is costing taxpayers. Mr Shields’s previous contract, which expired late last month, was costing taxpayers $116,000 a year for two-days-a-week worth of work.
“I have received the appropriate briefing and am now determining the next steps,” she said.
“I will have more to say in due course.”
Translation: “we are totally clueless and awaiting the royal return of the whiny voiced one”
Sack the lot and have a fresh start!!!! This includes a number of head honchoes in the public service.
All of the above. I sometimes wonder if self-government could be revoked and we could revert to being part of SA again. But there are at least two obvious problems:
1. SA wouldn’t want us.
2. We’d be run by southerners who don’t know anything about things up here and mostly hadn’t been here.
