Barkly Regional Council Mayor Jeff McLaughlin has pleaded not guilty to possession and supply of cannabis, cultivating cannabis plants, and driving with THC in his body, charges that stemmed from two different roadside drug tests, while a charge of driving under the influence of the drug has been dropped, it has been reported.

The ABC reported that the Alice Springs Local Court heard on Thursday Mr McLaughlin, 43, who is pleading not guilty, was charged after being pulled over by police for a roadside drug test in September – while he was driving a Barkly Regional Council car – after which a search warrant was executed on his Tennant Creek home, leading to the possession and supply of cannabis, and cultivating cannabis plants charges.
