NT Police are calling for the public’s help to identify a man who allegedly set fire to a Katherine service station on Tuesday afternoon and is still at large.

Police said they received reports that a man wearing a balaclava entered the service station on the Victoria Highway in Katherine South around 1:10pm and set fire to the inside of the servo before fleeing the scene in a Toyota Hi-Lux without registration plates.

An employee extinguished the flames before emergency units arrived at the scene.

CCTV footage from the scene shows the suspect used a balaclava to obscure his identity, but police believe he is a male adult, although no other identifying traits were released.

Police said the man also robbed the servo but provided no details about that allegation.

Footage showed the suspect fleeing the scene in a white single cab, two-wheel drive Toyota Hi-Lux, with a rusted flatbed tray with damage to the driver’s side door and a missing wing mirror and door handle.

Detectives from the Katherine Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating the incident.

The vehicle was last seen travelling west on the Victoria Highway.

Police are urging anyone with information to make contact on 131 444 and quote reference 10328228.
