Man’s hand severed in daylight street brawl: NT Police

A street fight between two men in Katherine Monday morning ended with one of them having his hand severed and the other suffering “significant head injuries”, NT Police have said.

Police are calling for witnesses to the fight, that they say started around 9:45am in “the vicinity of” a block of units on the Victoria Highway in Katherine South.

“As a result of the altercation one male’s hand was severed and the other male received significant head injuries,” police said in a statement.

They did not provide any details of how the man’s hand was severed and did not say what weapons may have been used.

It was also unclear if others were involved.

“Police established a crime scene and both males were transported to Katherine District Hospital for treatment to their injuries,” the statement said.

“The Katherine Criminal Investigations Branch is calling for anyone who may have witnessed or have information about the altercation to contact police on 131 444 or 1800 CRIMESTOPPERS. Please quote reference number 10180374.”
