A 23-year-old man with multiple outstanding arrest warrants led police and a dog unit on a pursuit through Alawa after being observed at a liquor store in Jingili around 3 pm yesterday, NT Police said.
The man escaped arrest on Rothdale Road and a pursuit ensued through Moil and Jingili before police terminated it for safety reasons. He was later apprehended after being tracked by the police’s dog unit.
“After stalling the vehicle he was driving, the offender fled on foot. A foot pursuit commenced through Alawa, with the offender scaling several fences, and the Dog Operations Unit deployed patrol dog Wedge to track him,” Senior Sergeant Kaye Pemberton said.
Snr Sergeant Pemberton said the man was tracked to a community garden where he surrendered to police and tested positive for cannabis, methamphetamines and amphetamines.
The man was charged with breach of bail, driving a motor vehicle without license, driving under the influence of drugs, driving dangerously under pursuit, and possessing schedule 1 less than trafficable quantity.
He was scheduled to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
