A man who was sleeping in his Moulden front yard early Saturday morning for undisclosed reasons had his slumber abruptly interrupted when he was run over by an unknown vehicle that smashed through the fence, sending him to hospital with multiple injuries, NT Police said.

Police are calling for the public’s help identifying the vehicle involved in the incident.

Police said around 4:30am Saturday, a small grey SUV, “possibly a Kia Sportage”, drove though the fence of a Bonson Terrace residence in Moulden and ran over the man who was asleep in the front yard of his own home.

The vehicle then fled the scene, leaving the man with suspected rib, abdominal and hip injuries.

He was taken to hospital and is currently in a stable condition, police said.

The small grey SUV was suspected to have sustained damage in the unusual incident, police said, seeking public assistance to identify its owner.

Police did not elaborate on why the man was sleeping in his front yard at 4:30am.

“Anyone with information [about the vehicle] is urged to call police on 131 444 or you can make an anonymous report through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” police media manager Rob Cross said in a statement.
