A man was stabbed multiple times in his leg and body following a fight which broke out in a car in Alice Springs, NT Police said.

Police director of communications Mark Wilton said in a statement that about 5.00am Saturday, police were notified of a 30-year-old man turning up to Alice Springs Hospital with multiple stab wounds to his leg and body.

“The victim alleged he had been travelling in a car with another male and a female earlier in the night,” Mr Wilton said.

“Around 3.30am, an altercation allegedly occurred between himself and the male occupant of the car, which subsequently pulled over on Bradshaw Drive in Gillen.

“When the two exited the car, the victim was allegedly stabbed multiple times by the male offender with an unknown edged weapon.”

Mr Wilton said the trio are believed to know each other, and the male alleged offender, and the woman left the scene after the stabbing.

The car has been found, police said, but offender is still on the run.
