A man is in a serious but stable condition after allegedly being stabbed in the abdomen in the Darwin CBD early Sunday morning, NT Police said.
Police said they and St John Ambulance responded to reports of the stabbing on Smith Street around 4:50am, understood to be outside the Puma Station.
A statement said police confirmed “the man had suffered a puncture wound to the abdomen” and was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital.
As of Sunday morning, the victim was “in a serious but stable condition” at hospital, police said.
Police did not provide any details or description of the alleged attacker or attackers, saying only that “investigations remain ongoing”.
The man, reportedly in his early 40s, is the sixth stabbing victim in Darwin since March.
Last Friday, a teen was stabbed in the chest with a pair of scissors at the Casuarina bus interchange, during a fight involving at least 30 people of unspecified ages.
Last month, a woman was stabbed on the Esplanade and later died in hospital, with the alleged attacker currently facing a charge of murder.
The same night, two others, including a man and a woman, were also stabbed at Casuarina Square, but both survived.
In March, 20-year-old Declan Laverty was killed while working a shift at the Darwin Airport Tavern BWS bottleshop with the alleged assailant currently facing murder charges.
The stabbings, and last week’s brutal slaying of an international CDU student while he slept, has caused outrage throughout the community, with an anti-crime rally scheduled for Parliament House at 2pm on Thursday to call on the Fyles Labor Government to take action to keep Territorians safe.
