UPDATED: A group of youths allegedly broke into a police officer’s home in Katherine on Wednesday night and assaulted the female officer before fleeing, sources have told the NT Independent, which police did not report, with a similar incident occurring on Thursday night where a woman was assaulted by an unknown man in her home.

It is unclear if the two incidents are connected or why police did not inform the public about the Wednesday night break-in involving a female police officer.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Lawson said in a statement on Friday that police were looking for witnesses to the Thursday incident in what he described as an aggravated unlawful entry, “which was a frightening experience for the victim and her family”.

He said the victim was inside the house about 9.15pm, when an unknown male allegedly unlawfully entered the house demanding keys to a vehicle.

“Upon police arrival the man has fled the house through a window,” Sgt Lawson said.

“A crime scene was declared and detectives are working closely with the forensics team to identify the offender.”

He provided no more information and did not a mention the similar incident involving a female officer in Katherine the day before.

Multiple NT Independent sources confirmed an NT Police officer was involved in an incident Wednesday night at her home in which she woke up to find unknown intruders in her home. The officer was then allegedly physically attacked.

Police are asking for anyone with information to phone police on 131 444 or make an anonymous report through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
