A man was allegedly hit in the head from behind with a scooter outside a pizza joint by one youth, then kicked in the head while he was unconscious on the ground by another police have said, which reportedly left him with a fractured skull.

NT Police Southern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Adrian Kidney told the NT News, CCTV footage showed the injured 34-year-old man had been in an argument with two young people outside Roberto’s Pizza in Todd St before the alleged assault about 11.30pm Sunday.

“One youth struck the victim from behind to the head with a scooter, knocking him unconscious,” he told the paper.

“Whilst he lay unconscious on the ground, the second youth ran up and kicked him to the head (in what) can only be described as a coward act before running from the scene.”

The paper reported St John Ambulance took the man to Alice Springs Hospital and on Monday morning he was in a stable condition, with a fractured skull and sinus fracture.

Police want anyone with information, particularly anyone who filmed it, to contact them on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
