A 35-year-old man has been charged with one count of sexual intercourse without consent, an act of gross indecency, and indecent assault following an alleged incident in the northern suburbs last Friday, September 9, NT Police said.

The man was arrested and charged on Friday and is scheduled to appear in Darwin Local Court Monday morning.

NT Police said the incident happened in Tiwi on September 9 and was reported by the adult female victim on the same day.

No details of the incident were provided, including whether the victim knew the alleged offender or why the man was not arrested for a week, or if the public were at risk int he days between.

There have been a total of 355 reported sexual assaults throughout 2021 in the Territory. Of those reported, most attacks were directed at females and more than a third of the victims were aged under 18 years old at the time.
