A man has been charged after alleging assaulting a woman multiple times, before chasing her onto the road where she was hit by a car, NT Police said.

Fyles Government crime marketing manager Sita Bacher said in a statement that just before 10pm on Tuesday the man and the woman, who know each other, began fighting at a bus stop on Chung Wah Terrace, Palmerston.

She said the man allegedly assaulted the woman multiple times, before chasing her onto the road where she was hit by a vehicle, leaving her with multiple fractures in Royal Darwin Hospital.

The man left the scene, but was arrested Wednesday afternoon, and charged with three counts of aggravated assault, recklessly endangering serious harm, and a breach of a domestic violence order, Ms Bacher said.

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court Thursday.
