NT Police have charged a man over an alleged break-in of a Darwin city home in the early hours of the morning where police allege he attacked the resident with a knife, causing serious injuries, and who ten days later was arrested using negotiators, and the Territory Response Group.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Day said at about 4.15am on February 4, the man allegedly broke into the home, armed with an edged weapon, assaulting the occupant of the house and causing serious injuries.

He said on Wednesday police tried to arrest the man at a Cavenagh St ‘location’ but the man allegedly ran away to a nearby residence, and hid inside, and was later arrested after negotiators, the dog operations unit, and the TRG, were called in.

Snr Sgt Day said it took “ongoing negotiation” to arrest the man who was later charged with aggravated unlawful entry and aggravated assault, and was remanded in custody to appear before Darwin Local Court on Wednesday.
