A 44-year-old man has been charged with choking and aggravated assault over an alleged domestic violence attack on a woman in Alice Springs, NT Police said.

Police director of communications Mark Wilton said in a statement that about 7:10pm on Thursday, the 44-year-old man was arrested over the alleged assault on a woman he knew, which took place at an unspecified time and location the previous day.

He said the man has since been charged with choking-strangulation, aggravated assault, and breaching a domestic violence order, and he is due to appear in court today.
