Another man involved in a hit-and-run in the NT over recent weeks has been arrested in connection to last week’s Alice Springs fatality, NT Police have said.
Detectives from Alice Springs travelled to an undisclosed remote community Friday night where the man handed himself in, police said.
It is alleged the 64-year-old man was involved in the hit-and-run that killed a 25-year-old woman last Tuesday night that occurred on Gap Road near the Kempe Street intersection.
The woman was taken to hospital but later died from her injuries. Police had been asking for the public’s help in locating a silver sedan, possibly a VE model Holden Commodore that was seen in the area before the woman was found.
The latest arrest for an alleged hit-and-run comes just a week after police arrested a 50-year-old man in relation to the fatal Timber Creek hit-and-run that killed a 19-year-old man on an empty stretch of highway.
And on Friday, police arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly being involved in another hit-and-run in the Darwin CBD on Tiger Brennan Drive near McMinn St at about 4am.
A woman was taken to the hospital in a serious condition, after being struck by a Toyota Yaris, where it’s understood she remains.
The 64-year-old man allegedly involved in the Alice Springs hit-and-run has been charged and will appear before court at an undetermined date.
“Police would like to thank the public who greatly assisted in supplying vital CCTV footage and information that led to the successful identification and arrest of the man,” police said in a statement.
