Police have not given information surrounding the actions of a 70-year-old man who they charged with manslaughter following the death of a 73-year-old man in Katherine overnight.

Police spokesman Rob Cross said in a statement on Tuesday that about 11:30pm on Monday police were told the 73-year-old was taken to Katherine Hospital with serious injuries after allegedly being assaulted earlier in the evening.

He said detectives arrested the 70-year-old man but did not give a time or location of the arrest.

On Wednesday he said in another statement the 70-year-old had been charged with manslaughter and detectives were investigating but provided no more information about what happened. They did not say when the man died or what caused his death or if the man was from Katherine.
