An 18-year-old who allegedly threw boiling water over a woman in The Narrows causing her to seek treatment for burns has been arrested more than a week after the incident, NT Police said.

The incident is alleged to have occurred on March 6, but a statement from police media manager Rob Cross was light on details, including why the alleged aggravated assault was not reported by police media earlier or how the man eluded police for 10 days.

Mr Cross said the man threw boiling water on a 32-year-old woman at a Shiers Street residence but had fled the scene by the time police arrived on March 6. It was not disclosed if the woman knew the man.

He said the woman had not sought medical treatment for the burns at the time but later required treatment at Royal Darwin Hospital.

The man was arrested yesterday by Serious Crime investigators in Darwin City and charged with aggravated assault and unlawfully causing serious harm.

He appeared in court today, Mr Cross said.
