A 32-year-old man was arrested in Pinelands on Thursday after Drug and Organised Crime members stopped a vehicle being driven in a dangerous manner along Stuart Highway around 5 pm, NT Police said.

An ensuing search of the vehicle yielded a .38 calibre revolver, ammunition, more than $20,000 in cash and a trafficable quantity of methamphetamine.

“This is fantastic work by our members who apprehended the driver and as a result have disrupted his operation,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Wayne Newell. “We take community safety very seriously and removing unlawful firearms and illicit drugs from the hands of criminals is our priority.”

The man was charged with possession/use of a firearm, unregistered firearm, possession of ammunition without a license, failing to meet storage requirements, possession and receiving property commission of an offence, and possession schedule 1 less than trafficable quantity.

He was remanded to appear before Darwin Local Court today.
