Eight youths have been arrested and more remain on the run in connection to a series of stolen cars and break-ins across Darwin overnight, that saw police deploy two tyre deflation devices at separate locations, NT Police said.

Three stolen vehicles were reported to police between 10:30pm and 11:30pm Sunday night, including a Toyota Hilux from Tiwi, a Mitsubishi ASX from the Eslanade and a Toyota Corolla from Nightcliff.

Police said the Hilux was used to break into a business on benison Road in Winnellie and another attempted break and enter on Whitewood Road in Howard Springs.

They located the stolen Mitsubishi in Palmerston at 1am and pursued the vehicle to Karama where they deployed a tyre deflation device, arresting four youths aged between 12 and 15 at the scene.

Another four youths were arrested after the Corolla was located on McMillans Road at around 2:40am with police deploying another tyre deflation device that eventually forced the car to stop near Lakeside Drive in Alawa.

Police said those four alleged offenders were between 11 and 15.

The green Toyota Hilux is still on the run, police said.

“Charges are expected to be laid later today in relation to these offences,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier.

“These arrests were the result of a well-coordinated effort by Strike Force Trident, Serious Crime and General Duties.

“The Toyota Hilux is still outstanding and we are urging anyone with information to any of these incidents, to make contact on 131 444.

“These stolen vehicles were being driven in a manner that was incredibly dangerous for everyone who was on the roads at the time. It was just lucky no one was injured or killed.”
