Mayors and councillors across the Territory will receive a four per cent pay increase later this year, including Darwin Mayor Kon Vatskalis who will see the biggest increase, with every local councillor seeing their allowances increased by several thousand dollars.

The Remuneration Tribunal recently determined the four per cent pay rise, after receiving submissions from Darwin Council, Palmerston Council, Alice Springs, Wagait Shire Council and Coomalie Shire Council, which it found necessary “in recognition of movements in earnings within Australia as well as the Territory”.
