Dear Editor,
We can’t afford to demolish the Don Dale centre. It should be refurbished as a centre for female inmates. It should also be, low security, open style units, with gardens and workshops. Rehabilitation is the aim rather than retribution.
Why spend millions of dollars to demolish, and then tens of millions of dollars to build a new penal institution?
Once the children are moved from the old Berrimah jail, it can be turned into a museum showcasing how wasteful it is to sell off, or give away, our public assets.
We cannot afford a government that needlessly gives our public assets away.
