Letter to the editor: Composition of NT Integrity and Ethics Commission typical in culture of deception

Dear editor,

The NTI’s reports on the composition of the Territory’s “new” Integrity and Ethics Commission and related issues is alarming.

The Finocchiaro Government’s record on good governance, ethics and accountability is appalling and disreputable. Cover-up is entrenched in a culture of deceit and deception.

The government believes that by the time of the next election Territorians will have forgotten their record on probity and governing in the public interest – as opposed to their own self interest.

This is an arrogant and lethal assumption.

In Australian parlance – Territorians resent being treated like mugs. What will the consequences be?

If you give the bird to the hoi polloi they’ll return it to you. This is a repeat of the Gunner, Manison, Fyles and Neve years of dysfunction and profligacy where personal interest triumphed over public interest and the common good.

Legacy? – Labor is unelectable for the foreseeable future. Maybe “His Honour” and his wealthy benefactors will intervene and right this ship.
