What are the land councils doing to help their people with their 10s if not hundreds of millions of dollars?
Why don’t they fund the starting of remote businesses and industry?
I’ve never received a cent of help from the government. Why do some people believe they deserve money for giving nothing back in return?
And honestly, I don’t care what criminals think of the conditions of detention. It was their choice to commit crimes. No sympathy, no matter who the criminal is.
It is not racist to expect basic decency in public nor to require people not to commit crimes.
Many of us, most of us, are sick of the whinging.

Totally agree. In this world where society is striving for equality in all things that would be very “equal”. Racism in todays world only applies to Caucasian people. It is a western concept that is being used to “punish” the generations of evil people who can be held responsible for the sins of their ancestors. Shame it doesn’t go both ways.

All of those concerns and requests are completely 100% valid and would be a useful way to begin to engage with systemic and structurally ingrained racism and other numerous negative issues which affects not only the organisations, their employees and their decision making but also the greater community as a whole.

Lia must change the sacred sites act name to reflect what it really is to significant sites act and than publish a map showing all sites that must be signposted as you can get a life destroying fine for walking on one. Also why would you develop anything within cooed of these sites. Also ensure that the crimes act treats extortion severely. The Land Councils must stop being against any attempts to create jobs in communities and be grateful to the taxpayers who support their very comfortable existance.

Nobody is getting fined for walking on sacred sites. And if the govt would do its job and release land, so businesses could access premises and remote worker housing, land councils could do their job in getting the agreements done. Nobody can do much about economic development when govt isn’t releasing land. Land councils are only really set up and funded to deal with the Aboriginal aspects of land tenure, they’re not the govt and they can’t really create jobs alone.
You should read the legislation: fifty grand or two years in prison. The government can not release land in Land Council areas; the Land Councils can. The problem is the Land Councils.

We’re not sure why no one else in Governments around the world has offered this as a solution to fixing deep rooted, complex, colonial era problems with continuing racism.

Seriously, if you really want to equalise things as you say then take a step back and first identify what the issue in dispute is (hint: it’s mentioned many times in the article, we know you don’t like to read but give it a shot, please): Perceived racism in the NT Police and also in Crappy Littleminded Policies, over representation in prisons, on top of refusing to conduct an independent racism review of said racist Police Force.
You ‘equalise’ a system infected with racism (Government, organisations, society), both subtle and overt, by working to eradicate racism with the goal of treating everyone fairly/the same.

As a general observation we think it’s ironic to see/read people residing on stolen land, complain bitterly when some of the people whose land was stolen, and who have managed to retain some control over parts of that land, choose to do with their land as they please.
And the vitriol spat out when those choices don’t align with someone else’s who clearly think theirs is more important.
Scary stuff.
The large dark cloud of colonialism looms over our country and continues to affect the lives of all of our citizenry, of all different levels of melanin in our skins.
