More in-fighting in Territory Labor has led to mixed messaging about whether the Opposition will support independent MLA Justine Davis’ gambling reform bill that will be introduced to Parliament this week, which proposes strengthened conflicts of interest rules for NT wagering commission members, banning inducements to problem gamblers and introducing stronger penalties for operators that fail to meet their obligations.

Labor Member for Daly Dheran Young last week stated in a social media post that caucus had agreed to support Ms Davis’ bill, in which he said Labor was “proud to support reforms that put the wellbeing of people, families, and communities at the centre of gambling regulation”.

  1. Goodness, never seen a political party fight so hard to stay irrelevant. Clearly just waiting it out for voters to get the shits with the CLP and swing back to Labor.

But who says it will be Labor they swing back to next time?

    • Thats right.
I feel a Red Headed Politician will be making her presence felt!

  2. Supporting this bill would be a very easy way for the Opposition to appear relevant.
Or is NT Labor more concern about the flow of gambling related corporate donations drying up instead of the good of the constituency it is meant to serve?
