A 45-year-old woman has been arrested and charged following a drug and weapons raid in Gray, where police allege part of her supply operation involved youths stealing cat food from a supermarket in exchange for marijuana, with officers later seizing drugs, cash and a range of weapons including batons, tasers, knives and samurai swords.
The woman, Leigh Wilson, appeared in court today charged over the alleged offending.
Strike Force Trident Senior Sergeant Darren Burns said his unit received multiple reports in April of kids stealing cat food from Bakewell Woolworths, and following their arrest, they allegedly told police they were stealing the cat food to exchange it for marijuana from Ms Wilson at her Gray home.
He said police executed a search warrant at the Gray property at 8:10am yesterday and seized 975 grams of marijuana, multiple Schedule 4 tablets, counterfeit currency, and a range of weapons, including eight extendable batons, two tasers, knives and samurai swords.
Police also seized gold and silver coins and bullion valued at an estimated $35,000, electrical items, and about $3,850 in cash.
Ms Wilson was charged last night with one count of supplying a Schedule 2 substance in a commercial quantity, one count of possession of a Schedule 2 substance in a commercial quantity, nine counts of possession or use of a prohibited weapon, four counts of receiving or possessing tainted property, one count of possessing counterfeit money, and two counts of unauthorised possession of Schedule 4 substances.
“Today’s result reflects the dedication of our members and their commitment to keeping the community safe,” Snr Sgt Burns said.
“Removing drugs, prohibited weapons and other illicit property from our streets helps protect vulnerable members of the public, and Strike Force Trident will continue targeting those who seek to profit from criminal activity.”
The allegations against Ms Wilson have not been proven in court.
