A video shows how two young teenagers and two 11-year-olds attempted a carjacking using a knife, with the group later being arrested after NT Police said they also allegedly tried to carjack a taxi before bashing the driver and stealing from his car.
Police communications director Mark Wilton said in a statement that police alleged that about 6:40pm Wednesday, a woman was approached by the four boys, a 13-year-old, a 14-year-old, and two 11-year-olds, while she was in her car on Harvey St in Darwin city.
Mr Wilton said the group allegedly threatened the woman with an edged weapon and demanded she give them her car.
The video shows the woman got out of the car and was again threatened with a knife before she was able to run off with her keys.
Mr Wilton said the group could start the car but not drive it because it was a push start and the keys were out of range.
In a second incident about 10:30pm, Mr Wilton said the same alleged offenders approached a taxi parked at the Shell service station on the corner of McMinn and Daly streets, where they allegedly assaulted the driver with a blunt weapon and demanded to be given the vehicle keys.
He said the group ran off after allegedly stealing small items from the taxi and the driver was was treated at Royal Darwin Hospital.
The 13-year-old and 14-year-old remained in custody about 1.30pm Thursday Mr Wilton said, adding they were expected to be charged sometime on Thursday, while the 11-year-olds were taken to a “responsible” adult and a referral has been made to Territory Families.
Knife crimes should be automatic detention without bail.
Aggravated (armed) burglary,aggravated assault and more gee,I hope those adults they were returned to are “responsible”…what a joke the NT has become. All this going unchecked WILL result in massive economic pain for the NT.
It is obvious by the actions of these youngster that there are NO responsible adults in thier lives.
What is desperately needed throughout the NT, and Australia as a whole, is consequences for actions. The longer we do not hold these little hoods responsible for their actions the further into anarchy we will fall.
And you have to wonder what political purpose that will serve the current Govrrnments, or are they all just plain stupid.

Only in Labor World would people accept that an 11 year old boy understands that if he arms himself with a knife and flash that knife at someone then they will kind enough to provide them the car keys but not understand going armed in public, terrorising innocent women and stealing cars is wrong.
Carrying a knife or edged weapon and using it to harm or cause fear should automatically add 5 years to a child’s age. For example, this 11 year old should be treated as a 16 year old and dealt with accordingly.
