Two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old, who were chased by police after allegedly stealing a taxi they had been passengers in, have been arrested NT Police said.

NT Police director of communications Mark Wilton said in a statement that just after 2am Wednesday police received a report that passengers of a taxi travelling to Dripstone had stolen the vehicle.

He said police tracked the vehicle travelling through Nightcliff, before chasing the car, but stopped the chase shortly after due to dangerous driving.

The vehicle was located abandoned a short time later in Millner, Mr Wilton said, and at an unspecified time Strike Force Trident detectives arrested a 13-year-old girl, a 14-year-old girl, and 13-year-old boy.

Police said the teens were expected to be charged later today.
