Darwin’s iconic ‘Jim Beam’ house, which contains five bathrooms and five powder rooms, but only one ballroom, has been listed for sale at $10 million by agents acting for owner, developer and former abattoir worker, John ‘Foxy’ Robinson.

The house, which sits at 94-96 East Point Rd in Fannie Bay, on the corner of Ross Smith Avenue, is listed as featuring a ballroom with a commercial kitchen, five bedrooms including a self-contained caretaker’s residence, five bathrooms and five powder rooms, and a roof deck pool, all on a 2,010 sqm block.

It is also said to have air-conditioning.

The home is represented by Colliers International Darwin’s Chris Hyland and Julie Neal, and its listing states it is a “remarkably majestic residence built for grand scale living and extraordinary palatial entertaining”.

“A breathtaking home distinguished by its expansive and wide verandahs, plantation shutters and opulent entertaining rooms of stunning proportions,” the listing reads.

“Brimming with light, space and architectural flair, the White House enjoys privileged ocean views and spectacular sunsets.

“Immersed in a colourful leafy, tropical garden with magically scenic outlooks from every perspective.

“This magnificent home includes a fully equipped ball-room with a commercial kitchen, bar and amenities to cater functions and entertaining on the grandest scale.

“A luxurious rooftop pool and barbeque pavilion provides the ultimate venue for sultry summer entertaining.”

The home, perhaps the most famous in Darwin, is known as the ‘Jim Beam house’, as it was built by bourbon importer Norm Forster in the 1980s.

News Corp reported the property once was the the most expensive home in Darwin having sold for $6.495 million in 2004, a record which is now held by the home at 108 East Point Rd, which sold for $8.5 million in 2022.

However, when the Jim Beam house sold in 2004 it was on 4880 sqm of land, along with an original red brick home, a caretaker’s cottage, a tennis court and three swimming pools.

When it sold again in 2011 for $4.7 million to Mr Robinson, it was just the 2010 sqm block and the white mansion.
