Why didn’t they buy an existing programme?
That’s the billion dollar question.
They did!
The previous/current medical systems CCIS,CARESYS and PCIS where created by JADE software, a company that does not make Medical Health software! No other Hospital in Australia (all 350 of them) except ours , uses anything made from Jade Software. They all bought established medical systems from companies that make medical software.
But not here in the NT.
The former CIO could answer some questions about that.
Acacia is the internal name for InterSystems Health products.
The only reason Acacia is so behind is because of the public servants that have been managing it!
Thats the same as Serpro at Police.
Thats the same for the asset management system (AMS), had a starting budget of $7.2 million. it was two years late and already $12 million over budget when the then Treasurer stepped in to Kill the Project!
Several Australian hospitals and health services use InterSystems technology, including Macquarie University Hospital, Mater Health Services, St. John of God. Here are the specific mentions:

Mater Health Services (Brisbane, Queensland): A network of seven hospitals that uses InterSystems HealthShare as a strategic informatics platform to connect over 20 clinical and patient administration systems InterSystems.
Additionally, InterSystems’ technology enables a shared Electronic Patient Record in South Australia and Western Australia, and drives improved care across Victoria’s 22 community health agencies AIDH.
Global Hospital Usage

More than 1 billion health records worldwide are managed using InterSystems technology, and they bring high-performance data platforms to thousands of hospitals InterSystemsInterSystems
InterSystems powers over 450 Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) that serve over 500 million people around the world InterSystems
In 2016, InterSystems won 56 hospital contracts, representing the highest number of new hospital wins globally outside the US during that period InterSystems
In 2024, InterSystems was chosen by 9 organizations across 6 countries in the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America, impacting 28 hospitals and roughly 6,300 beds Crunchbase

Hey who was the highly qualified and competent CEO of DCDD which managed the failed ACACIA project and the problematic SerPro project?
Was he fired for incompetence? What? He was promoted to CEO of Health with no Health background?
Only a Finocchiaro CLP Government could deliver a outcome like that!
