A seriously injured man found in bushland near a home that was engulfed in flames may be connected to the suspicious blaze at Bagot Community last week, NT Police said, which they suspect involved family violence.

Fire crews and police were called to the community around 8pm last Thursday night, where they found a room in a house fully ablaze.

The fire was reportedly quickly extinguished. Nobody was in the house at the time, police said.

“After the fire, a 55-year-old man was in nearby bushland with serious injuries,” Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Budge said on Monday.

“The man has injuries consistent with a serious assault. We are investigating the possibility that this assault is directly related to the fire and we are treating these events as family violence.”

The man is now in stable condition at the Royal Darwin Hospital and assisting police with their inquiries, police said.

Police are urging anyone with information, video or dash-cam footage that may assist in the investigation to call 131 444 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, quoting reference 10060486.
