Some Indigenous people in Alice Springs have been forced to defend themselves in court because of a shortage of lawyers at legal aid services, the ABC has reported.
The outlet quoted Luritja/Pintupi interpreter Donella Clarke from the Aboriginal Interpreter Service saying that for the first time in her ten years in the job she was seeing people who were being forced to face court without lawyers.
They don’t seem to have any problems with self representation when they are doing the crime
