A former Darwin RSL vice-president says Brent Potter needs to resign as Veterans’ Affairs Minister following his blame-shifting apology for racist Facebook posts, with the veteran stating in a scathing letter to the Minister that “racism, bigotry and sexism is not the Australian way” and that “being an idiot does not excuse your actions”.
Australian Defence Force veteran Mick Caldwell, who was also the director of security at NT Parliament House for nearly a decade, said in the letter that he objected to Mr Potter’s claims that the racist, misogynistic and homophobic posts he shared were the result of being in the ADF, with the implication that the ADF fostered a culture of hateful beliefs.
If Potter thinks that all the things he said which are now the subject of justifiable complaints are irrelevant because he was so young when he said them, shouldn’t he forgive and overlook any racist comments made by the then Constable Zachary Rolfe and his young police mates?
Exactly. This is really what it’s all about.
Potter is almost as right wing as me (most ex military are), the only difference is that we will not sink to his level for a cushy job.

If citizens wish to drain the NTG ALP Swamp they must be prepared to put their hand up to run as an independent, or teach their kids & grand kids about public policy & how important it is to know your local MLA and understand what they stand for & question are these MLA’s accessible. How morally bankrupt is the NT government….as an ex ADF member I would not like to have served with Potter he would not have your back…and he would probably push you forward and retreat…..
