Mosquito repellents are being distributed and agencies are trying to disrupt breeding spots as high rainfall has lead to plague levels of the disease-carrying insects in Tennant Creek, the ABC has reported.
NT Health said it had done 20,000 tests on mosquitoes and their larvae across NT to detect any mosquito-borne viruses amid the proliferation of the insects in the Barkley region brought about by the more than double average rainfall in the last two months.
