The fallout from revelations that Police Minister Brent Potter shared racist posts on social media came quick on Wednesday, with an independent MLA calling for Mr Potter to resign over his “sickening” behaviour, while Chief Minister Eva Lawler backed her minister, despite claiming in a statement that “there is no room for racism in the Territory”.
The NT Independent revealed on Wednesday that Mr Potter deleted racist and anti-Semitic social media posts ahead of being elected to Parliament in 2022, in which he quoted Nazis, praised Vladimir Putin, permitted the casual use of the n-word and shared a link about destroying the Black Lives Matter movement.
As the grand daughter of a Jewish grand mother the behaviour of 2016-24 NTG ALP MLA’s like Potter demonstrates power, networking & privilege was always a part of the Gunner/Fyles ALP selection process. The Mappas family obviously had huge influence over FYLES so he was chosen to represent Fannie Bay Electorate with captains pick without a transparent process. Fyles has fallen on her sword as should anti-Semitic & racist Potter if the NT community is to improve.

If I expressed opinions like that on my social media I would be getting investigated by AHPRA, and probably end losing my registration, my career – and I’m “only” a nurse.

I vote Labor, but the current government is making that choice more distasteful by the day.
Eva Lawler, it’s a disgrace that you accept his explanation. Leopards don’t change their spots. You should know that and if the equally distasteful CLP get in at next election, make sure you all have a good bloody look at yourselves.
