A 38-year-old man needed medical treatment after being hit by a rock that was thrown from a car driven by a group of youths in Alice Springs on Saturday evening, NT Police said, calling on the public for information after the youths evaded capture.

Police received a report of the incident around 5:30pm Saturday, involving a blue Holden Commodore being driven dangerously around the Alice Springs CBD.

“The vehicle was occupied by a group of youths and is not believed to have been stolen,” police media director Mark Wilton said in a statement.

At some point later, the occupants of the car allegedly threw a rock out of the car which struck the 380year-old man, which required medical attention.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle by using tyre deflation devices, “however, the vehicle fled the area upon sighting police and the offenders remain outstanding”, Mr Wilton said.

“Investigations are ongoing and police urge anyone with information to contact 131 444 and quote reference P24296462. Anonymous reports can be made to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or https://crimestoppers.com.au/.”
