Seven children, aged 10 to 14, have been caught by police for stealing a car, damaging property and assaulting workers in Darwin’s northern suburbs overnight on Monday, NT Police said.

Strike Force Trident said they have arrested and charged two of the youths while five others “will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act”.

Acting Superintendent Mark Bland said the five other kids were three boys and two girls aged between 10 and 13.

Supt Bland said the children’s offences included stealing a motor vehicle which was later dumped; assaulting a worker; threatening a worker, stealing, and damaging property at several locations in Malak and Karama between 9pm and 2:40am.

He did not give further details on the incidents, including the assaults and threats made against workers.

The two children charged were a 14-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy.

They are both facing multiple charges of aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle, unlawful entry of a building, damage to property, stealing, attempted unlawful entry, and aggravated assault.

The female was taken into police custody and was additionally charged with serious breach of bail.

The boy was meanwhile bailed and both were scheduled to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
