Police are searching for a group of 10 youths who allegedly broke into a Katherine home overnight – including “at least one” armed with a weapon – who allegedly sexually assaulted two females in the home, damaged property and stole items before fleeing the scene.

NT Police said the incident occurred around 7:45pm at a residence in Katherine South. The ages of the victims were not released.

Police were called to the scene, but said the offenders had left by the time they arrived. It was unclear how long it took to respond to the incident.

It is believed the same group of youths also broke into another residence in the area.

“This was a traumatic incident for the victims involved and detectives from the Northern Investigations Section are working tirelessly to ensure those responsible are held to account,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Ordelman.

“We believe at least one other residence was unlawfully entered in the area and we are urging people to review their CCTV and provide any information to police on 131 444. Please quote reference P24189984.”

Anonymous reports can also be made through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via https://crimestoppersnt.com.au.
