The Finocchiaro Government has signed a secret deal with private security company G4S to provide prison officers, with the cost of the contract and the process used to award it not made public.
The announcement comes after the United Workers Union called the use of the “special” corrections officers “crushing” for Corrections officers and said they believed this would be a step towards the privatisation of the prison system.
