The Fyles Government’s announcement of a so-called “Territory Safety Division” to be based at the Nightcliff police station is purely for political reasons in the Chief Minister’s electorate, NT Police Association president Nathan Finn has said, while questioning how the officers would be recruited and funded.
Chief Minister Natasha Fyles and Police Minister Brent Potter on Thursday announced the Territory Safety Division, to be established immediately with 10 officers already part of it, and “more than” 50 officers to be part of the division. The extra 40-plus positions are to be filled as recruitment and training activities are completed, which will allow for experienced officers to join the unit, the government said.
