A 79-year-old German national who was part of a tour group at Nitmiluk National Park was found dead after leaving camp on foot on Monday morning and failing to return, NT Police said.

Police were informed he was missing at about 3:30pm Monday.

Emergency services personnel and NT Parks and Wildlife officials deployed to the area to search for the missing man.

The man’s body was found at 5pm, police said, on a track in the Southern Rockhole area.

Police said a crime scene was established but said they believe the death is “non-suspicious”.

A report will be prepared for the coroner, police said.
