EXCLUSIVE: The independent body that determines NT politicians’ salaries and benefits has refused to explain how two Labor MLAs were able to charge taxpayers for personal holidays on their government fuel cards through a benefit scheme that does not appear to exist.
The NT Independent revealed last month that the NT’s first law officer, Attorney General Chansey Paech, and Labor Member for Daly Dheran Young, charged taxpayers thousands of dollars for fuel for their personal interstate roadtrips over the Christmas period, after Speaker Mark Monaghan moved to “clarify” an entitlement that is not currently on the books just days ahead of their trips.
